Some aspects of the Whole30 plan are similar to the paleo diet. Paleolithic man was of a hunter-gatherer society. So, in keeping with the spirit of things we went on a hunting trip to gather supplies for our eating regimen. At Walmart.
Not the best location for hunting-gathering but when you’re rural you do the best you can. Indeed, there was more hunting than gathering. Always on the lookout for new ingredients we still found goodies.
One of my favorite finds was this:
In addition to surprises like finding the same brand of ghee we got at Lucky’s Market, we found this:
Did you see that price per ounce? Do you know how much meat we can buy for 11.98? We needed a vanilla bean for a recipe but it’s more economical to find a new recipe.
We left Walmart and headed straight to our local grocery store where we found other surprises. Like unsweetened flaked coconut and plantains.
I have made my peace with flavored waters. I can now taste a faint sweetness in them. In addition to the La Croix coconut water I tried the orange Bubly. It was good but the coconut was so smooth and yummy.
Funny thing about the flavored waters. They are sparkling which I define as fizzy. Not a fan of the fizz. I prefer to pour them into a glass and stir most of the bubbles away. It’s not uncommon for me to let them go flat. I was trying to discern the taste of a flat one and realized, after several sips, I was drinking plain water.
When we got home sister asked me to mix up a batch of snack mix from the nuts and fruit we had foraged.
We hope you enjoy.
